About Me

I’m Dr. Emily Kaiser (she/her), a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in trauma, anxiety, and chronic pain or illness. In over a decade of clinical experience, I’ve had the privilege of working with people from many different walks of life, each bringing unique challenges and strengths to therapy.

I’ve trained and worked at Stanford Medical Center, the VA Healthcare System, college counseling centers, and addiction-focused outpatient practice. These experiences shaped not only my skills as a clinician, but also my belief that everyone deserves compassion, respect, and high-quality care. My work is grounded in evidence-based approaches, while also flexible enough to honor your individual story and needs.

Outside of therapy, you’ll most often find me outdoors—I’ve been an avid rock climber for more than a decade and love hiking, camping, and time in nature. I also enjoy cooking, reading long nonfiction books, and seeing live music whenever I can.

My Approach

At its best, therapy is a space where you feel safe, understood, and equipped to make meaningful change. Here’s what you can expect in working with me:

  • Compassionate: Every person deserves kindness and understanding. You’ll be met with respect, validation, and encouragement—and together we’ll practice approaching yourself in the same way.

  • Collaborative: I see myself as a guide. You bring your goals and values, and I’ll share the different evidence-based paths we can take to get there. Therapy is always a shared process of decision-making, where you feel informed and empowered to choose the next best step in your care.

  • Transparent: I like to “pull back the curtain” in therapy. I’ll share the principles behind different tools and approaches so you fully understand not only what we’re doing, but also why.

  • Practical and Results-Oriented: In our sessions, we won’t just talk—we’ll identify the changes you want to see in your life and work toward them in concrete, actionable ways.

  • Strengths- and Values-Based: We’ll build on the strengths you already have and align our work with what matters most to you.
